The Legend Range – named after the legendary TPD (Theunis Petrus Daniel) Briers, a veteran Springbok rugby player, and a past member and director of Windmeul Cellar.
Briers, born in 1929, grew up in Agter-Paarl and during his early 20’s, he played for the town’s rugby club where he received his nickname by local newspapers ‘Pêrel van die Paarl’ which translates to ‘Pearl of the Paarl’ and he truly lived up to the name. He went on to play for Western Province and later for the Springbok Rugby team. He was known for his strength and speed and even though his Springbok rugby career was short-lived, it was glorious. He was a true legend of his time.
The legacy of Briers’ life was to live with passion, to enjoy life yet not to shy away from hard work, and to be grateful for even the smallest of blessings found in the nature around us. 2020
The wine is a blend of only the best selected Pinotage from different barrels, all made and matured in new small French oak for 18 months. The wine has well rounded ripe tannins that retain the natural flavour of Pinotage and will perfectly complement any meat dish.
2019
Generously full-bodied, with rich, honeyed notes. Barrel fermented, the wine has a fine acid balance and a delicious aftertaste. The savoury character makes this an excellent food wine.
